Caring for your suit

While Suiting:

  • Wearing proper undergarments while suiting can help prevent your fursuit from wicking up sweat and debris from your skin. A balaclava and spandex bodysuit - such as Underarmour - can prevent the growth of bacteria within your suit.

  • Synthetic furs and fibers LOVE to absorb scents and oils- always practice good hygiene to ensure your fursuit’s longevity and cleanliness!

  • Keep your surroundings in mind. Fursuits limit your vision, and rough play combined with environmental hazards can lead to potential stains, popped seams, or scalped fur. Sharkkstudio suits are built to last, but too much rough exposure can greatly decrease a suit’s lifespan.

After suiting:

  • Spray the inside of your suit head, bodysuit, feetpaws, and handpaws with a 50/50 alcohol and water mixture or aerosol disinfectant, avoiding spraying on either side of the eye mesh. Make sure everything is completely dry before the next wear.

  • Gently brush your suit out using a slicker brush, following the fur direction.

Deep Cleaning your Suit Head:

Tails, bodysuits (padding removed and flipped inside-out), and handpaws (flipped inside-out) are safe to machine wash on cold, but are NOT suitable for dryers.

FURSUIT HEADS ARE NOT MACHINE WASH SAFE!

  • Mix water and a small amount of soap or detergent. Wet a small towel with the mixture and use it to sponge the inside of the head, paying extra attention to spots exposed to more sweat, such as the forehead and sides of the face. Avoid getting the mixture in the eye mesh to prevent fading or chipping.

  • Wet a new small towel in water to rinse the soap out the inside of the head. Repeat until no soap remains inside the head.

  • Use a dry small towel to sponge as much of the water out as possible. Repeat as necessary.

  • Spot clean the head’s exterior using a damp cloth. For tougher stains, use a mixture of baking soda and water. Mix into a thin paste and gently massage it into the exterior of your suit head. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then remove with a damp cloth.

  • Dry using a high velocity fan or blowdryer on COLD. Exposure to heat will melt fur and loosen glue.

  • Ensure all suit pieces are COMPLETELY dry before storing to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.

  • Brush all suit parts after each wash with a slicker brush, following the direction of the fur. It may help to also brush your suit a few times as it dries to help the damp fur dry in the right direction.

  • Your suit should be stored away from direct sunlight and from humid environments to prevent damages, fading, and mold.

  • Bissell Little Green Machines also work wonderfully for cleaning both the interior and exterior of our suit heads.

Repairs

  • For any larger damages, fur replacement, or other necessary repairs, email us at sharkkstudio@gmail.com with photos of the damages and we will do our best to provide repairs!

  • Our fursuits are custom-made by hand by one artist, and small damages such as popped seams will happen, especially as the suit ages. We recommend doing a thorough check of suit seams both inside and out after long or particularly rough suiting to check for any damages.
